About TapOff

What it shows

  • How full the dams areThe six big dams together, from the City's latest reading, and which way they moved this week.
  • When it last rainedDays since the last rain in Cape Town, and whether it's raining right now.
  • How much the city is usingLast week's water use, against the same week last year.

The screen takes the colour of the dam level, so a glance tells you how the dams are doing.

Since 2018

TapOff launched in January 2018, as Cape Town counted down to Day Zero. It put the dam level, the last rain and the city's water use on one screen, and ranked suburbs on leaderboards by how much water they used.

This is the new TapOff: the same answers, kept up to date as the City publishes. A new iPhone app is in the works. This one works on any phone today.
